28 Weeks Later vs. Mean Girls

The two movies i choose to compare are 28 Weeks Later and Mean Girls

28 Weeks Later

28 Weeks Later is a post-apocalyptic sic-fi horror film that centers around the life of three main survivors 28 weeks after the outbreak of "Rage", a very zombie like virus, happens. We can tell it's a horror movie because it deals with a topic that is scary and unknown, it presents very uncommon situations, like for example the infected husband killing his wife, and in general is very gory and gross, being a zombie movie.

Mean Girls

Mean Girls is a totally different film. It's a comedy film about the life of a girl who just moved to a new country and faces the hazards of high school in the form of the Plastics. There definitively is some exaggeration of situations, very nice humor, misunderstandings between Cady and her friends, with her teachers, etc. It's a movie that someone could relate to.

Both movies are very different, and deal with totally different plots and complexity. Could they have anything in common?

After analyzing and comparing both of them, i have come to the conclusion they have little next to nothing similar. The only way we could say this movies are a tad similar is if we talk about the fact that both of them deal with life's situations and problems, but both of them at very different scales. (We're talking from high school girl problems to zombie apocalypse survivor problems).

Britney Spear's Interview

I choose an early Britney Spears interview from 2001 at Rosie O'Donnell's show because i thought it would be interesting to see how she presented herself on the early years of her career.

In this interview she talks about her upcoming movie. She shows herself happy and exited about it, and also talks about being nervous at first. Her attitude is cool and confident, she seems to be someone who is not afraid of challenges and is not intimidated by anyone, when she later mentions she usually isn't nervous when meeting people. She also tries to put herself as a happy, successful person, when she mentions she had a happy childhood despite her career, and  then talking about how cool it was Madonna was using her merch. Also when mentioning meeting Madonna's daughter, she makes it look like she's such a big icon and role model, mentioning how they told her Lola had all her dolls and was a big fan. She tries to seem a bit more approachable or maybe less self-centered by making comments like "Madonna probably though i was a bore", to be later corrected by the host and reaffirm her she's so awesome even Madonna adores her.

In general, she presents herself as a happy, confident young girl, not totally down to earth but tries to cover it with her easy to go conversation.

Sweet Notes (Business idea logo)

I decided to create a logo for a cupcake store because i really love cupcakes. I based my idea of this "store" on the concept of music; something everyone loves and enjoys, that is melodious, and can make  your day a whole lot better, and linked it to cupcakes, so people would perceive them in this way too. I choose a light pink background to represent the cuteness and loveliness of the cupcakes, then circled it with piano tiles, image of music. Then we have the name of the store, Sweet Notes, another allusion to music, in a girly swirly font in a swish motion. I choose to do it like that so it would call people's attention. Then we have a cute smiling cupcake in the middle, in the background a big G note, and last but not least, a "slogan" of the store: "As good as music", again linking both.

Orcinus Orca

In the past few decades animal captivity has become a great, profitable business. People all over the world daily visit zoos and aquariums to see the cute and sometimes exotic animals they keep there. But what they don¡t ask themselves the moment they're gushing at the cute little penguin by the window, is how being captive really affects these animals. They suffer in these conditions. Taken away from their natural environment, their family, their mothers. But animals are getting tired, frustrated, aggressive. They have soon started to attack and in some cases, even kill their trainers or care-takers. We saw this happen to Dawn Brancheau, senior orca trainer at SeaWorld Orlando. How much time, how much tragedies have to happen, so we can finally take action against this?

I'm particularly interested on orca captivity, so if i had the opportunity to do a documentary, i would choose to do it about them. A little of how the live in the wild vs. in captivity, and i would want to question if and  why/how captivity is bad for them, why, and how it can be fixed/stopped. It would be a expository type of documental, to expose the ugly truth about the state of animals in captivity. My main goals would be to inform the public about this topic and persuade them to not only stay out of parks and facilities that keep captive animals, but to also take action and be against it. Raise a petition to close this places.

The documentary itself would contain interviews to ex-trainers of different marine parks around the world about their point of view regarding captivity. It would also contain interviews to marine mammals experts in order to get more information about orcas and their behavior in the wild, (if) how captivity affects their health. Probably do some research on the topic, and visit some of most famous marine parks in the world, like SeaWorld, Loro Parque and Marineland to get footage of their facilities, the orcas, the shows. Testimonial from trainers who have been attacked on the past, why do they think it happened. It would be called Orcinus Orca.

What's Up With the Elevator?!

What's Up With the Elevator?!

On July 22nd, 2014 the students of Boston University's Summer Challenge program walked themselves to Warren Tower's B after they afternoon seminars, a normal part of they daily routine, only to be meet by terrible news. Two of the three elevators were broken. Since last Monday, the girls of Tower B have seen themselves obliged to walk down stairs because the only working elevator couldn't satisfy people's needs.

Line of people waiting for the elevator to arrive this afternoon

One of the security guards, Ron, told us that apparently the elevators aren't actually broken, it's just that due to the constructions going on in the building  these are used to transport materials and such, leaving students without access  to them. He also shared that "usually when one of them breaks down, we make a quick call and they get fixed pretty soon. It happens from time to time"

Misra, students: "The broken elevator makes our daily lives so much slower! We have to wait for a long time, and usually end walking down stairs"

Emiliana, student: "It's so annoying! Like i'm always arriving late to call now because of this. Hopefully they will start working again soon!"

We really hope students are able to get access to the elevators soon!!
